Mattie F. Snowden is a true example of the American Dream

The Early Years

Mattie was born in Prescott, Arkansas as the youngest of four children in a single family household.  Although she was the baby of the family, while her mother worked during the day, and most nights, Mattie quickly found herself taking on the majority of the domestic roles- especially cooking.

“My brother always preferred my cooking over my sisters, and I gladly accepted  the responsibility.”

At this young and impressionable age, Mattie was inspired by the reaction and accolades she received from her cooking.  It was at this point that Mattie dreamed of one day becoming a successful restaurant owner and vowed to one day make that dream a reality.

A Dream Deferred

During her late teens Mattie fell in love with her high school sweetheart and was soon happily married.  Like the old nursery rhyme accurately predicts, the marriage was soon followed by the baby in the baby carriage!  Mattie had four children and enjoyed being a devoted wife and mother.  Like the majority of women today Mattie soon found herself having to choose between following her dreams or taking care of her family.

Mattie answered her call to duty and instead found joy in preparing meals and sweet treats for her children and husband.  Although Mattie was very happy and content with her family centered life, she never forgot about the burning desire from her childhood.  Just below the surface the entrepreneur within waited quietly until the right time and season for its emergence.

The Right Season

After successfully raising her children including a special needs son, Mattie is now at the prime of her life.  At the tender age of 61 Mattie ventured out and started her own business.

“You are never too young, nor too old to live your life’s purpose.” “Now that my children are grown and I have been divorced for 15+ years, I am dedicated to enjoying my golden years and growing my business.”

Just like how a perfectly baked cake needs the proper ingredients as well as precise baking time, Mattie feels as though her “ingredients” for success have been there since birth.  With over 40 years of culinary experience,  it is just now the right timing for Mattie and Sweet Potato Cake Company!

“Although I don’t own a brick and mortar restaurant, I truly believe I have reached more people through my baking and the sharing of my secret recipes than I ever could with one restaurant! Dreams really do come true-just not always how we expect them to!”
